Rio Grande City water crews get new $350K truck to fix leaks faster
Rio Grande City has a new tool to help fix water leaks.
The city just bought a new truck worth $350,000. It holds more water than the previous one and also has equipment that allows crews to clean and reuse water while they work.
That means crews can spend less time refilling the truck and more time fixing the problem. The truck has already been put to use.
"It's going to help with the time that it takes to fix a leak. It's going to take less time instead of calling a contractor, having to wait for them to come do their services, and us just being here on the spot, being paused, waiting for them to come out," Rio Grande City Public Utilities Director Ruben Salinas Jr. said.
In the past, the city spent more than half a million dollars on contract services, rentals and repairs. The city now expects to save money by handling more of that work itself.
