Several streets in a Santa Rosa neighborhood will soon get repaved after the city received a state grant to help cover most of the project cost.

The city received a $750,000 state grant to repave six streets in the area known as El Rincon del Diablo. The city will contribute more than $37,000 to the project.

The streets set to be repaved are First, Second, Third, Fourth, Del Sur, and Roman.

Santa Rosa Mayor Jaime Quiroga said the neighborhood was a priority for the project.

"In our case, this is one of the areas that we felt needed it the most," Quiroga said.

Residents like Rosie Badillo have deep roots in the neighborhood and say the streets have become difficult to navigate.

"There's holes that are so deep down in the streets that it's hard to get around," Badillo said.

Quiroga said the area has needed attention for a long time.

"I can remember it growing up when it was a gravel road," Quiroga said.

The city is currently in the design phase with engineers. Once engineers give the go-ahead, the city will seek bids from construction companies. Work is expected to begin no later than December.
