Man acquitted in Palmview double murder retrial
A 32-year-old Mission man was acquitted on Tuesday on a charge of capital murder of multiple persons in connection with the deaths of two women in Palmview, Hidalgo County court records show.
This was the second trial for Guadalupe Garcia Vela, the man accused of shooting and killing Yvette Garza and Nathalie Hernandez during a criminal transaction that happened on Dec. 20, 2015, according to the indictment against him.
One of the victims was reportedly found with cocaine bundles strapped to her body, according to a June 2022 Channel 5 News report.
Vela was initially indicted on the charge on April 20, 2016, with the initial trial beginning in June 2022.
During the trial, investigators told jurors that bullet casings found at the crime scene matched the live rounds found at Vela’s home.
A mistrial was declared on July 8, 2022, due to a deadlocked jury.
Vela’s new trial started on Sept. 23, 2026.
