South Texas College secures $2m grant to expand Weslaco child development center
Weslaco, TX (KRGV) — A grant of more than $2 million is expanding free child care at the Child Development Center at South Texas College's Mid-Valley campus in Weslaco, according to college officials.
The grant will help cover child care costs at the center. It also lets the center add infants 12 months and under.
The center now serves about 30 student parents, and each family can enroll one child. Students need at least nine credits to apply.
College officials plan to add two more classrooms in spring.
College officials say the expansion helps student parents who may struggle financially paying for school and child care.
Additional information on the child development center is available online.
