WESLACO - The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a one-vehicle crash which occurred Wednesday in the Linn-San Manuel area.

It happened along U.S. 281, north of FM 490.

A Hidalgo County sheriff’s unit attempted to stop the driver of a green 2004 Ford Explorer, occupied by five including the driver a traffic violation. The driver stopped then evaded as the deputy attempted to make contact. 

The vehicle traveled northbound on U.S. 281 then made a turn-around traveling southbound on U.S. 281. 

The driver then lost control of the Ford and veered off the roadway where it struck a tree. 

One passenger was transported to DHR via air-evac. Four others were transported to local hospitals with major injuries. 

State troopers are on scene further investigating this major crash.
