Salvation Army RGV Chapter Offering Free Meals to First Responders
WESLACO – Members of the Salvation Army Rio Grande Valley chapter are currently in Port Aransas helping care for first responders.
Four member of McAllen’s disaster team arrived Saturday night.
The crew is providing meals for 125 first responders. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Cpt. Stephen Correra said Port Aransas is in complete destruction.
“Our team is understanding that being here – we’re supplying basic human needs,” he said. “What we really are supplying is hope for those who have lost everything. We take our work very seriously and we count it as a blessing to be able to serve others.”
Correra said the team went prepared to serve 750 meals.
When supplies diminish, he said an incident command team from the Arkansas/Oklahoma division will be responsible for supplying future resources.
The team will be in Port Aransas for two weeks.
