Several Brownsville ISD schools are on lockdown or under safety restrictions due to nearby police activity.

A spokesperson for the Brownsville Police Department said officers are looking for an auto theft suspect in the area of Hortencia Boulevard.

Five campuses are affected, according to a social media post from Brownsville ISD. Canales Elementary and Faulk Middle School were placed on lockdown, while Lincoln Park High School entered secure status. Additionally, Cromack-Castaneda Elementary and Porter ECHS were placed on hold.

Moody Clinic, a nonprofit outpatient clinic in the area, announced the facility was placed under a hard lockdown.

“We want to reassure our families that all campuses are safe and that the police activity is not related to any of our schools,” Brownsville ISD said on a social media post. “These measures are being taken strictly as a precaution to ensure the continued safety of our students and staff.”
