It's a win for Valley cheer.

PSJA Memorial and Sharyland Pioneer becoming UIL State bronze medalists this past weekend at UIL Spirit State Championships in Forth Worth.

Sharyland Pioneer Senior, Irais Martinez said, "Well this was our last chance at least for the seniors and I know everyone as a whole wanted this for each other." PSJA Memorial senior, Diego Villages said, "It was definitely a good feeling to end off on it. I felt like a chapter for me, for us closed in a good way."

PSJA Memorial and Pioneer finished in fourth place last year. That is what gave them the motivation they needed to take home a medal this time around.

Sharyland Pioneer senior, Jaylyn Newton, expressed, "since the start we had that drive, that hunger to win, especially when getting fourth place my junior year that set us back a lot and I think that just kind of carried the team with that motivation."

This win is extra special for PSJA Memorial's head cheer coach Alex Cano. His two daughters are on the team, and his oldest is a senior. Finishing off her high school career by winning her second UIL State bronze medal.

"After she was done performing she came to me crying and said, dad I'm not ready to leave, so to me that was priceless." Said Alex Cano, PSJA Memorial head cheer coach. "I mean my family's there for me all the time. Being the oldest out of 6, there's no words to describe it as how much work and dedication they've put into this team and to just make history." Madison Cano, PSJA Memorial senior expressed.

Both teams feeling honored to be sharing this tremendous win alongside another Valley school.

Marissa Briseno, Sharyland Pioneer head cheer coach said, "watching Alamo win has a special place in our hearts because we come to the same gym, we train at the same gym, so we see the growth in them as they see the growth in us."

PSJA Memorial Senior, Jenna River said, "having us both practice together, compete together and place together was a really amazing memorable experience for the both of us, knowing that we can both do something great."
