As job growth continues in the lower Rio Grande Valley, Cameron County’s leader said they’re focusing on improving infrastructure.

During Thursday’s state of the county address, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino highlighted economic development.

Over the past two years, Rio Grande LNG has reached over 5,000 employees. SpaceX has reached over 4,000 employees.

Trevino said more jobs are on the way, which means more homes and businesses.

The judge says that brings more demands for stronger infrastructure, including flood prevention.

“We're trying to address drainage, we're trying to address the water issue that's in coordination with our neighbors both in the other counties and in those entities that are charged with handling water and utility companies,” Trevino said. “It's all a coordinated effort, it's all a regional effort and it's something that we need to continue to do because these are problems that are not gonna go away and we're gonna have to invest."
