HOUSTON (AP) - Records show a lead police investigator in a January drug raid on a Houston home that left two residents dead has previously been involved in multiple shootings, received written reprimands and faced several lawsuits.

The Houston Chronicle cites internal police records and court documents in reporting that officer Gerald Goines has received glowing reviews despite repeated instances of questionable behavior and decisions.

Police Chief Art Acevedo said Friday that Goines lied in an affidavit justifying the Jan. 28 raid on the home that also left Goines and three other officers with gunshot wounds. Goines remains hospitalized.

Goines in 1997 shot and killed a man in an apparent road-rage incident. Goines also was shot and recovered from his wounds.

He was shot again in 1992 by a man who argued with Goines after seeing the officer urinate outside an apartment building. No charges were filed against the shooter.
