FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Authorities are looking for a person suspected of shooting a Texas state trooper after fleeing a traffic stop in a Dallas suburb.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says in a statement that the trooper is being treated at a hospital after attempting to pull over a car for a traffic violation at 2:15 p.m. Friday.

DPS spokesman Lonny Haschel says the trooper was listed in stable condition prior to undergoing surgery.

The agency says that instead of stopping, the driver fled north along a highway to a Frisco apartment complex.

Authorities say after the vehicle stopped, the trooper was shot by an unidentified suspect.

Officers continue looking for the suspect, who is believed to still be in the area of the apartment complex.
