United Nations program offers assistance to migrants in Matamoros
Asylum in the United States isn't the only option for migrants stuck in Matamoros.
If migrants don't want to wait for U.S. immigration proceedings — which were indefinitely delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic — to resume, they can ask the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to help them apply for asylum in Mexico.
A spokeswoman said the program provides financial support, assistance with housing and resources for integration into the community.
