UTRGV took down the reigning conference champion Southeastern Lions on Thursday night 78-65 in Edinburg.

Charlotte O’Keefe led the way for the Vaqueros with 22 points and 22 rebounds, the third 20-20 game of her career at UTRGV. It’s also her fifth double-double of the season, which leads the Southland Conference.

The win marks the fourth straight victory for UTRGV, taking down a Southeastern team that won the conference last year. The Lions drop to 1-7 in a disastrous season, brought on by the large majority of last year’s team transferring to McNeese.

The Vaqueros currently sit in a four-way tie for second place in the conference. They are one game behind McNeese for first place, which they host at the UTRGV Fieldhouse on Saturday.
