Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — The city of Edinburg is distributing sandbags to residents and local businesses, with the effort extended through Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.

The distribution is taking place at the service center at 1201 N. Doolittle Road. Crews are working to give out 1,000 pre-filled sandbags through a drive-thru-style setup and will load the bags into vehicles upon arrival.

Edinburg residents may receive up to six sandbags per household. Local businesses may receive up to eight sandbags. Proof of residency is required.

"It's best that when they show up they provide a driver's license or water bill in order to be able to receive these bags," Edinburg Assistant Director of Public Works Larry Ayala said.

Distribution runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Once all pre-filled bags are gone, the site will shift to a self-service setup.

At that point, bags and shovels will be provided to residents on site.
