A weapon was found at Aiken Elementary School on Wednesday, according to Brownsville Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Timothy Cuff.

In a statement, Cuff said Brownsville ISD police and the Security Department responded immediately, and located and secured the weapon.

It is unknown what kind of weapon was discovered on campus.

Cuff said the situation is under control and there is no ongoing threat to the campus.

"BISD takes all safety concerns seriously and remains committed to maintaining a secure learning environment for our students and staff," Cuff said.

Everyone on campus is safe, and appropriate safety measures were taken. There is no ongoing threat to students or employees.
