WESLACO – The U.S. House spending bill blocks funding for construction of the border wall at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge.

Lawmakers are trying to decide how our money will be used this year. The bill is more than 2,000 pages long.

Out of the more than $1.5 billion approved for border security, the bill passed by the House says no funds will be used for the construction of the border wall in the wildlife refuge.

A contrast of what other government officials have said.

A portion of that billion dollar funding will go towards border wall construction and improvement in the Valley.

The U.S. Senate still needs to pass the spending bill. Senators have until Friday, at midnight Eastern Time, to approve the bill or face another government shutdown.
