Local App Made to Report Active Shooters

WESLACO - A Valley app developer is hoping to help pinpointing active shooters.

The developer says the problem is when violence happens in a large building, and people can't explain what part of the building they're in.

His solution is to automate that.

Roy Tijerina, owner of Texas Guardian, started after his friend was killed in a texting while driving incident.

He says the same technology he developed to help schools monitor bus drivers and their phone use is now being used to report a shooting incident by hitting a button.

The alert is passed to a school administrator, who issues a lockdown.

And the exact location of the person reporting the incident is sent to police.

Tijerina says that small detail, identifying the location, can go a long way when saving time means saving lives.
