Local Deaf Couple Recovering from Flood Damage

WESLACO – The Federal Emergency Management Agency is working to reach out to deaf people affected by the flooding.
Celina Mendoza and her husband are both deaf and trying to recover from the damage left behind by high floodwater.
Mendoza spoke with CHANNEL 5 NEWS through her interpreter, Carmen Cardenas.
"It’s hard because I don’t know who to call in the first place for emergencies or anything. I don’t know how,” Medoza explains.
A FEMA representative tells us the resource center is open to phone systems used by the deaf and explains people are able to meet with interpreters as well.
