Mexican Military, Cartels Clash in Deadly Shootouts

REYNOSA, Mex. - More than a dozen people died after a series of shootouts between the cartels and Mexican military in Reynosa.
Mexican newspaper El Mañana reported 13 people died in shootouts spanning over the past two days. The shootouts were reported by citizens of Reynosa through anonymous tips.
After one of the gun battles, authorities seized bulletproof vests, guns, ammo and radios.
Criminal groups built blockades by using burnt vehicles, burnt tires and spikes in an effort to get away from law enforcement. The incidents are similar to others reports over the last years.
The dead gunmen are believed to have belonged to a fraction of the Gulf Cartel.
Last Friday, the mayor of Reynosa said there seemed to be less violence in the city.
Mexican authorities continue their investigation.
