UTRGV Baseball Kids Day
EDINBURG - As the saying goes, rain or shine, the show must go on.
And that was the exact motto during the UTRGV baseball youth clinic over the weekend.
"The weather wasn't too good today, so it was nice to see a bunch of kids come out and still have fun despite the cold, to still come out and support us, said senior pitcher Chase Adams.
"It was really cool to see because everyone was happy and smiling, almost like the weather was 75 degrees and sunny,' said senior pitcher Juan Carreon. "Nothing but good attitudes and smiles."
A group of eager to learn athletes joined their favorite vaqueros in the outfield to learn tricks and trades of the game.
"It was really fun, we actually had a really good turn out for the weather, how it was," said Juan Carreon. "The kids were great, and there were actually some pretty good athletes."
"Surprised to see how many kids came out, said Chase Adams. "It was really nice seeing a lot of kids out here today."
But it wasn't just the love of the game that brought these future ball players to the UTRGV baseball stadium.
It was the opportunity to work hand and hand with the athletes they look up to most.
"It's pretty awesome having kids look up to you, said Chase Adams. "You may not notice it every single day, but there are kids that come to the games and look up to every single one of us."
"I guess you don't really think about it to be honest, you just want to be a good example and try to stay positive because kids copy what you do and stuff like that, said Juan Carreon. "Just try to be a good role model."
