UTRGV is getting ready for its first ever marching band that will debut with the university's football program.

The university started the recruitment process for the marching band, and 300 students have shown an interest in joining, according to UTRGV music professor Saul Torres.

“The goal is to have as many as we can, we don't want to turn anyone away,” Torres said. “It's an important organization within the university that creates a more collegiate culture that allows the student to have that experience that normally somebody would have at another big school."

Scholarship money will also be given out to students in the marching band.

An audition date will be announced in May.
