Victim of Fatal Restaurant Fire in Rio Grande City Identified

UPDATE 12/14: The victim was identified as 31-year-old Maria Isabel Lopez Rojas.

RIO GRANDE CITY - A fire broke out at a restaurant on the 600 block of Old El Sauz Road in Rio Grande City.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. at the Mesquite Grill and Country Store.

We're told when fire crews arrived they discovered an unresponsive 31-year-old woman inside the building.

That person was pulled from the building and taken to Starr County Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities tell us an autopsy is pending.

 State Fire Marshals are now headed to the scene to assist with the investigation.

We will have an update when one is available.
