MCALLEN – A hero’s journey and the legacy left behind.

State Trooper Moises Sanchez, 49, died over the weekend after a shooting back in April that left him hospitalized.

“Amazing” and “hard-working” – those are the words people are using to describe Sanchez as a high school student.

More than 30 years later, those words are an understatement to his community.

Sanchez was born and raised in McAllen as Moises Cruz, later his name was changed to honor his stepfather.

The state trooper is part of McAllen Memorial High School’s 1989 graduating class; he was a hall of famer for the MJROTC program.

Sanchez served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1989 to 1991.

He then gained a bigger family in 1996 when he married his wife, Yvonne, and was blessed years later with his sons and daughter.

At the moment, no information has been released on funeral arrangements.
