Mission Fire Department expands free CPR classes following high community demand
The Mission Fire Department is expanding its free CPR classes after high demand.
The department started offering the free classes after a 17-year-old Mission CISD student survived cardiac arrest after collapsing during tennis practice. The teen, Aaron Garza, has since recovered.
"As soon as we put out this flyer, we were filled up in the first three hours," Mission Fire Chief Michael Silva said. "That told us that this is something that was desperately needed in our community. So we're excited to bring this to them."
The department plans to offer CPR and AED trainings every few months. Future dates will be announced online.
Everyone who completes the course will be fully CPR certified.
