Alamo completed a drainage improvement project designed to protect one of its busiest roads against future storms.

City leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday for the project, which will benefit Alamo Road, also known as FM 907.

"The last rain event that we had in 2025, we had more than 150 water rescues right where we're standing, so we knew we had to take action," Alamo Mayor J.R. Garza said.

Garza said the project involved replacing old drainage pipes with 48-inch pipes along the frontage road into the city.

"We started breaking ground on this off frontage, replacing the old lines that were there, the old drainage pipes, upgrading them with 48-inch pipes cut all the way around right into the city of Alamo," Garza said.

The project cost about $1.8 million.
