Brownsville’s Historic Battlefield Trail named finalist for national hall of fame
A Brownsville trail is one step away from national recognition.
The Historic Battlefield Trail is one of three finalists for the Rails-to-Trails Hall of Fame. The trail runs from downtown Brownsville to the Los Fresnos area.
It connects the community to battlefield sites from the U.S.-Mexican War.
City planners say a Hall of Fame induction would bring real benefits to the area.
"Bringing in tourism and out-of-county spending is really good for small businesses," Brownsville Senior Planner Multimodal Transportation Department Eva Garcia said. "It's really good for our nonprofits and our events and everything that our community does and work toward."
The recognition is up for a vote and people outside of Brownsville can also participate. Click here to cast your vote
