A former Starr County pageant director pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a child, according to court records.

Angel Montemayor waived his arraignment on Aug. 6, 2026, which entered an automatic not-guilty plea.

Channel 5 News first reported Montemayor's arrest in April. He later lost his job as president and director of the Starr County Royal Court.

According to the indictment against him, Montemayor sexually assaulted a child younger than 17 years of age from November 2025 through April 1, 2026.

Montemayor was released on a $50,000 bond.

His next hearing is set for Dec. 1, 2026, with jury selection and trial set for Feb. 2, 2027.
