Lyford, TX (KRGV) — A man died after being struck by a train near Hidalgo and South Street, according to the Willacy County Emergency Management.

The Willacy County Sheriff's Office said deputies were assisting the Lyford Police Department with the incident.

Authorities said the train conductor called about the incident at 11 a.m., and law enforcement responded at the intersection of Hidalgo and South Street.

"We responded to a person lying down on the railroad track that was hit by a train. The individual is deceased," Willacy County Emergency Management Coordinator Frank Torres said.

Authorities said they do not know if the death was accidental or intentional and are still investigating. The victim was identified as a man in his 40s, but authorities said his name will not be released at this time.
