Lyford, TX (KRGV) — A man in his 40s died on Friday after a train hit him in Lyford and authorities are still investigating what led up to his death.
The death happened at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Hidalgo and South Street near Lyford City Hall.
Authorities tell Channel 5 News the train conductor reported seeing a man on the tracks and called for help. Authorities say they have identified the man but are not releasing his name at this time.

Channel 5 News also spoke with the Texas Department of Public Safety about the dangers around railroad tracks. DPS says trains cannot stop as quickly as cars, and people should stay alert anytime they are near the tracks.
DPS reminds pedestrians and drivers to stop, look both ways, and listen for approaching trains before crossing. Troopers say drivers should never try to beat a train or go around crossing gates when they are coming down.
“It takes a train traveling at 55 miles per hour; it can take up to a mile or more to come to a complete stop, even when emergency brakes are applied.” DPS spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez said.
Troopers say drivers should wait until the gates are completely raised and the warning lights have stopped flashing before crossing. DPS says people who ignore flashing red lights or go around gates when they are down could face fines or charges.
The train conductor is not facing charges.
