Lyford, TX (KRGV) — A man died after being struck by a train near Hidalgo and South Street, according to Frank Torres with emergency management.

The Willacy County Sheriff's Office said deputies were helping the Lyford Police Department with the incident.

Authorities said the train conductor called about the incident at 11 a.m. and law enforcement responded at the intersection of Hidalgo and South Street.

"We responded to a person laying down on the rail road track that was hit by a train. The individual is deceased," Torres said.

Authorities said they do not know if the death was accidental or intentional and are still investigating. The victim's identity will be released at this time.
