A young Edinburg athlete made history as the first girl to earn a full scholarship for girls' flag football, and the city took notice.

The city of Edinburg honored Kaytlen Moreno with a proclamation on Aug. 5, 2026.

"It's a really great opportunity, and I'm very grateful that I got this because not a lot of people get scholarships through this," Moreno said. "Knowing that I was able to acquire one made me very happy and very grateful."

Moreno will head to Hendrix College in Arkansas next week.
