Actor Edward James Olmos will headline the 12th Annual South Texas International Film Festival in Edinburg.

The festival will run from Sept. 10 to Sept. 12 at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Events Center, located at 315 West McIntyre Street.

Olmos will join local talents Valente Rodriguez and Dannie McCallum on stage during the festival. The event will feature 31 independent films, including 22 premieres.

Attendees can watch documentaries, live-action features, take part in workshops, network and join Q&A sessions with filmmakers.

The festival opens with a red carpet entry at 5:30 p.m. and a screening of short films made by Rio Grande Valley filmmakers for the STXIFF 48-Hour Film Race at 6:30 p.m.

On Sept. 11, 2026, doors open at 5:30 p.m. and five film blocks run from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 12 starts with "The Pitch," where aspiring screenwriters present original film ideas to a panel of industry professionals for a chance to win a cash prize. Screenings run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and focus on films made by Texas filmmakers.

The festival wraps up Saturday evening with red carpet interviews at 6 p.m. and the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets start at $5 for a single film block. A single-day pass costs $10, and a full festival pass is $25, which does not include Gala entry. An Awards Gala ticket, which includes dinner and awards entry, costs $65.
