EDCOUCH – A former municipal judge from Edcouch is currently in federal custody. He’s accused of trying to sell cocaine to undercover agents in Montgomery, Alabama.

The investigation started in the Rio Grande Valley but ended in Alabama. The DEA said it involved the sale of 40 kilograms of cocaine.

The Department of Justice confirmed former Edcouch municipal judge and alderman Daniel Guzman II is charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Guzman was arrested along with another man, Martin Camarillo Jr.

Court documents said a McAllen informant found out Camarillo was in Alabama attempting to sell the drugs at $32,000 a kilo. Investigators set up a purchase and pulled over the two men as they were headed to make the transaction.

Police said they saw a package of cocaine thrown out the passenger side window where Guzman was seated.

Both men were arrested.
