MCALLEN – Employees at the McAllen bus station said they’re staying busy with the high demand of travel this holiday season.

Laura Pereira, manager for Panamericana and Omnibus Express, said bus tickets are almost impossible to get a hold of, and many are already sold out.

Many Rio Grande Valley residents look forward to visit family outside the country. Monterrey native Rogelio Muñoz Maruabeya said he waited over six hours to get a departure ticket.

“It’s difficult because I got here at 11 a.m. and the only departures were set for 5 p.m.,” he said.

Pereira said the high traffic will keep up through the holiday weekend. A couple more bus companies at the station added extra routes and buses to accommodate the high transportation demand of people heading northbound and southbound.

“We will be adding more buses in accordance to the number of customers. For the most part, they arrive suddenly and everything sells out,” she said.

Pereira said this is the busiest season for them. She said ticket sales to Mexico are selling quicker than the ones northbound.

The bus company manager advised people to buy their ticket online or by phone instead of waiting to buy them at the counter.
