Los Fresnos, TX (KRGV) — Los Fresnos voters will choose among three candidates for mayor by Nov. 3, 2026.

Two candidates are running for office for the first time, while Mayor Alejandro Flores is asking voters for another term. The race focuses on roads, infrastructure, development, and communication with community members.

Amber Arriaga is a mother of five who has lived in the area for 16 years. She decided to run after hearing concerns from fellow community members and says the city should address longstanding problems.

“Things need to be done right now. There are roads that need to be repaired, roads that have needed to be repaired for years, and now they're in their plan. They're going to get to it, but some of these things need to be taken care of right now and not waiting for the next 10 years,” Arriaga said.

Arriaga also wants more transparency and better communication between city leaders and community members.

"They feel that they can't get correct answers or answers that aren't hidden as easily as they should," Arriaga said.

Flores is the incumbent in the race, and voters first elected him in 2020. He says the city is working to address infrastructure concerns and pointed to improvements along Escalante Road.

"We have a lot of work to update some of the piping that's underground. Some of that piping has been around since the 1920s, so in improving that infrastructure we get to piggyback and put some new roads on the streets," Flores said.

Flores says he also wants to improve parks, the senior center, and the city library.

"We have some ideas that we've been working on to enhance the library experience, maybe moving to a new location, but all of that costs money, so we don't have an unlimited checkbook; we need to ensure we plan accordingly," Flores said.

Nataly Ramos grew up in Los Fresnos and later joined the Army. Ramos said she questions how the city will keep up as more development comes in.

“We have a lot of development coming in, but I feel that development should be paying for a big part of that,” Ramos said. She says her priority is to keep the cost of new developments away from homeowners.

Ramos also wants more opportunities for community members to have a say in city decisions.

"I want to open up the city, and have town halls for the community to come out and take part in what's going on in the city," Ramos said.

Early voting ends on Oct. 30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
