Mercedes, TX (KRGV) — The city of Mercedes says it is upgrading the baseball fields at Kennedy Collier Park.

The work includes leveling the fields, adding new LED lights, and fixing the irrigation system. The city will also add new scoreboards to all the fields.

"Baseball is a big thing in the Valley," Mercedes Parks and Recreation Director Armando Villela said. "We don't want those kids getting injured. We want to have a welcoming facility for the kids."

The city expects to finish the $340,000 project in eight weeks.
