Mission Fire Department receives $250K state grant for new radios
Mission, TX (KRGV) — The Mission Fire Department is getting about 30 new portable radios with a $250,000 grant it received through Gov. Abbott's border security initiative.
The department is using the Operation Lone Star grant to pay for the equipment.
For the first time, every firefighter will get their own radio. The department will now have a total of 120 radios.
“There are times that we would go to an incident, and we couldn't communicate all the time unless you're with your officer at a scene. So this way we're able to communicate all times in a structure fire at an accident scene at an EMS call,” Mission Fire Chief Mike Silva said.
The new radios should arrive by December 2026.
