SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Plans for a second access to South Padre Island are currently on hold.

The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority executive director, Pete Sepulveda, says because the second access is being developed as a toll road, it’s causing problems with the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT recently put a freeze on toll road projects.

Officials intend to request that the second access not be a toll road, but the project needs to be evaluated before that.
