Rio Grande City plans to open a food truck park at Fort Ringgold Park as part of the ongoing revitalization of the area.

Rio Grande City Parks and Recreation Director Marco Treviño says the goal is to bring local food truck owners together and give them a place to grow their businesses.

"We want these entrepreneurs, or these people who have food trucks, to make a living, and make and showcase their food," Treviño said.

The city is looking for five to 10 food trucks to be part of the park. Treviño says the plan also includes a stage for open mic nights and weekend events.

"It's a food truck park that would benefit that purpose. A stage to have open mic night on the weekends or having any events on the weekend just to have that park back to life," Treviño said.

One food truck already operating near Fort Ringgold Park is Mr. Pollo. Owner Juan Manuel Ayala says the business has been a family tradition for decades.

Ayala says the new park would be good for business and the city overall.

"It's good for us because it is going to bring us more people and money economically. There will be a lot of movement," Ayala said.

Ayala also sees the park as a way to draw visitors from outside Rio Grande City.

"Rio Grande City will grow from this. We will see more activity; there will be more people from other cities coming here as well," Ayala said.

If everything goes as planned, the city expects to open the food truck park in early 2027.
