UPDATE (9/20): A police officers officer injured in a shooting in Starr County is out of the hospital and recovering at home. 

Rio Grande City Police Officer Noe Flores was shot in the hip area, according to a statement by the police chief posted online on Thursday

The suspect remains in custody.

RIO GRANDE CITY – A Rio Grande City officer was taken to the hospital after being shot with his own weapon.

We’re told his wounds are not life-threatening.

Wednesday evening, authorities were chasing a suspect. When the chase ended, the officer got into a struggle with the suspect.

Starr County District Attorney Omar Escobar Jr. says the suspect went for the officer’s weapon when the gun went off. The suspect is in custody.
