Harlingen, TX (KRGV) — As the Rio Grande Valley prepares for rain, Texas emergency officials are already positioning resources across the state.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management says more than 1,900 state emergency responders and more than 1,500 pieces of equipment are positioned across Texas.

That includes high-profile military vehicles, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and swift-water rescue boats.

TDEM is also working around the clock with local emergency management officials to monitor conditions and identify communities that may need additional assistance.

"We are using multiple factors to help determine what needs to go where, including the weather and the forecast, including current conditions, expectations for future conditions, any needs that our local partners have," TDEM spokesperson Wes Rapaport said.

Officials say as the forecast changes, they are prepared to move those resources where they're needed most.

TDEM says it already has recovery personnel at the state emergency operations center, ready to help with initial damage assessments if flooding occurs.

Meanwhile, officials are encouraging everyone to have an emergency plan, prepare a supply kit, and stay informed about changing weather conditions.
