SAN BENITO – San Benito High School has extra security planned for today after school officials say they received a threat late Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said they haven’t been able to determine how credible the threat is.

The announcement came Tuesday night on San Benito High School’s social media pages. Officials said they are investigating.

San Benito CISD police officers will be monitoring the campus. Officials expect classes to go on as planned.

The threat comes one week after the Parkland Florida High School shooting that left 17 people dead.

Since last Wednesday, three students in the Valley have been arrested for making similar threats to their schools. Two of those arrests were in McAllen and one in Brownsville.

Students who are charged with making threats to schools not only face disciplinary action from the school but could face legal charges as well.

San Benito school officials do want everyone to remember the district PD has a campus crime watch phone number which is (956) 254-3664. People can report incidents, crimes or suspicious activity.
