HARLINGEN – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services hosted a superhero-themed ceremony in Harlingen on Wednesday.

Thousands of Rio Grande Valley residents obtain their U.S. citizenship each year.

On Halloween, 30 children were given their certificates of citizenship as they pledged their allegiance to the U.S.

USCIS Director Norma Limon tells us the citizenship process is offered for children who qualify.

"If it's a U.S. citizen, born in the U.S., that child can derive citizenship through that parent. Also, if the parent naturalizes and they have a child under the age of 18 and that child is a permanent resident, they can also derive citizenship," Limon explains.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez has the details.
