Polls are open Tuesday across the Rio Grande Valley as voters cast ballots in city, school district, U.S. Senate, and congressional races that could help decide control of Congress.

Registered voters in Cameron and Hidalgo counties can vote at any polling location, while voters in Starr and Willacy counties must vote in the precinct where they are registered.

Polls across Texas close at 7 p.m., but anyone in line by that time will be allowed to vote.

Lines were already forming Tuesday at noon at the Lark Community Center in McAllen, where more than 14,000 people voted during early voting. The community center was the most popular spot for early voting in Hidalgo County.

House Speaker Mike Johnson campaigned in McAllen on Tuesday with Republican candidates Eric Flores, Monica De La Cruz, and Taño Tijerina.

This is Johnson's third visit to the Valley this election cycle.

"The entire balance of Congress is going to come down to the outcome of about 21 seats," Johnson said. "There are 435 House seats on the ballot today, 21 will decide which party will hold the majority," Johnson said.

District 15 voters will choose between incumbent Monica De La Cruz and Democratic opponent Bobby Pulido. The district covers parts of Hidalgo County.

District 34 voters will choose between incumbent Vicente Gonzalez and Republican challenger Eric Flores. The district covers parts of Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy counties.

District 28 voters will choose between incumbent Henry Cuellar and Republican challenger Taño Tijerina. The winner will represent Starr and several other counties in Congress.
