Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — Edinburg Police Chief Jaime Ayala will release more details on an officer-involved shooting that hospitalized one police officer.

The shooting happened Thursday morning when the officer, identified only as a 40-year-old man, responded to a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of Fig Street after a woman reported that her brother was "acting erratically" in their apartment.

As the officer approached the residence, he was met with gunfire, struck multiple times, and collapsed, Ayala said.

Other responding officers also took gunfire but were able to drag the injured officer to cover and begin medical treatment.

The suspected shooter, 25-year-old Daby Tadeo Ledezma, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Ayala said.

Ayala will release new details in a press conference set for Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. It will be livestreamed in this article and on the KRGV Facebook and YouTube pages.
