Weslaco Man Seeks Help to Maintain Drainage Ditch Near Home
WESLACO – A drainage ditch is causing flooding concerns for residents in Weslaco.
Martin Cavazos says he loves having a clean house; flooding in the area has been making that difficult.
He says the drainage ditch that separates his home and the Weslaco East High School makes things worse when it rains.
"When it floods from the backyard the water just channels to the front and then it floods that way and it floods our house," says Cavazos.
He says the ditch is only being maintained on the school’s side but not in the residential area where his home sits.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to the supervisor of maintenance for the Weslaco Independent School District, Oscar Rojas.
He explains the standing water near Cavazos’ home makes it difficult to maintain with school equipment.
