WESLACO – A 24-year-old woman is facing charges after she lied about being kidnapped.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s investigators said Sandra Elizeth Zavala reported she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted last month.

She claimed she was on her way home from a local store, near Donna, when it happened. Investigators later determined there were inconsistencies with her story.

Zavala then admitted to lying to investigators about what actually happened. She said she had been out with a friend all night and was afraid her parents would kick her out of the house.

She’s charged with making a false report.
