Melissa Brandi is a reporter for KRGV CHANNEL 5 NEWS, dedicated to telling impactful stories and giving a voice to the communities she serves.

Melissa was born and raised in Houston, Texas, to Mexican parents from Monterrey and Chihuahua, Mexico. From a young age, she developed a passion for storytelling and communication. She participated in theater productions and Spanish oral speech competitions, experiences that helped shape her love for journalism and public speaking.

She began her college career at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University, where she served as Campus News Manager. During her time there, she produced and anchored both English and Spanish newscasts and made history by creating the university’s first Spanish-language newscast in 2020.

Melissa later transferred to Texas State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication studies, along with a double minor in Latin Studies and Spanish.

She began her professional journalism career in 2023 at Telemundo 20 in Odessa, Texas, working as a Digital Content Producer. After demonstrating her skills in storytelling and newsroom leadership, she transitioned into a Multimedia Journalist role. During her two and a half years with Telemundo 20, Melissa covered a variety of stories, including entertainment news, and frequently filled in as a producer and anchor.

Melissa continues her mission to inform and empower the community with CHANNEL 5 NEWS. She is especially passionate about covering stories that impact immigration, education, and local communities, with the goal of ensuring people’s voices are heard.
