Prayers at the San Juan Basilica for Cpl. Jose 'Speedy Espericueta's Family
SAN JUAN - People from all over the Rio Grande Valley are turning to faith after the death of Cpl. Jose 'Speedy’ Espericueta.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to people at the San Juan Basilica.
Maria Salinas says she prayed for Officer Espericueta as soon as she heard the news.
"I grabbed my rosary and I started praying for him and the family," says Salinas.
She isn’t the only one; Audelia Handy went to the Basilica to do the same.
"I'm here at church praying. I lit a candle for the officer and for the family and for the whole community, these things shouldn't happen not to the people that are trying to protect us," says Handy.
Handy says she’s thankful for the sacrifice law enforcement officers make every day when they go to work.
