WESLACO – The Department of Public Safety is searching for a second suspect who is believed to be part of a hit-and-run in Weslaco.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect at large no longer posed a local threat.

Authorities responded to a hit-and-run around 1:30 p.m. near Mile 11 and FM 1015. They later followed a white truck to a home located on the 1100 block of Ruby Drive.

Upon their arrival, officials said two male suspects exited the truck. One man was arrested, but a second person fled on foot.

At the time, authorities said he may have been armed prompting Tony Rico Elementary School and Mary Hoge Middle School to be placed on lockdown. It has since been lifted.

The suspect was picked up by someone in a brown Trailblazer, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said he has a medium build, was wearing white on blue clothing and had a blue cap.

The sheriff’s office public information officer, Jena Palacios, said the department's Traffic Division will take over the search. We're working to get a description of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 956-383-8114.
